Heard rumors he had the Patrol at a STOL contest recently. Our low Reynolds number airfoil and propeller data in various formats is included below. The 4 series has lower Reynolds #s than the 6s so don't know how it would compare side-by-side with a Cub of similar weight/power. aircraft and engines, to buildings and bridges, to atmospheric science, sports science and even throughout biology. There are links to the original airfoil source and dat file and the details page with polar diagrams for a range of Reynolds numbers. ![]() Click on an airfoil image to display a larger preview picture. Using a bi-objective genetic algorithm, the airfoil designs created by DbM are optimized to maximize both the lift-over-drag ratio, CLDmax, and stall angle. ![]() Unfortunately, there is not one, but hundreds of airfoils optimized for the model aircraft range of Reynolds numbers. Another possible source is the website of Martin Hepperle. Bob Barrows chose the Riblett GA35-413.5 for the Patrol which worked out pretty well from the reports I've read. Airfoil tools is one of the best or you could go with UIUC airfoil database. Airfoil database search (NACA 5 digit) Search the 1638 airfoils available in the databases filtering by name, thickness and camber. The public UIUC database 1 is used to verify the feasibility of proposed BFE. Try the HQ series from the UIUC Airfoil Data Site. That is HQ as in Helmut Quabeck (model airfoils), not Horstmann-Quast (those would be glider airfoils). I'm using the Riblett GA30A613.5 on my little bush plane project. I have Compufoil loaded in my computer and with it I can overlay two airfoils on top of the main airfoil. Don't see how one could go wrong with either airfoil. The Riblett GA30A613.5 should be just a tad bit better. The USA35B is a good airfoil, no question about it. I've read and utilized both and Riblett has his stuff wired. and it's a lot easier read than Abbott and Von Doenhoff's book: The Theory of Wing Sections. The EAA sells a book (about $20) called GA Airfoils written by Harry Riblett which is a very informative book that the average aviator should have no problem understanding.
